James Cosgrove was appointed Police Director of the Elizabeth Police Department on January 1, 1998. Prior to joining the Elizabeth Police Department he dedicated 31 years of service to the Newark Police Department, where he attained the rank of Deputy Chief. James is married to Sue Ann, and has three children James, John and Albert, five grandchildren, Dylan, Samantha, Madalyn, Albert and Melony. He also has to two brothers, Thomas and Joseph. In 1998 he was Grand Marshal of the Newark St. Patrick's Parade and in 2000 he was named Irishman of the Year by Brian Boru.
